Re-discovering an old friend.

Hockey cards have been a big part of my life since I can remember. I recall some early birthday presents being hockey cards from my father. A hockey nut himself, he tried at a very young age to introduce me to hockey, and to a lesser extent the Toronto Maple Leafs. For better or worse, I stuck with this new hobby my dad was introducing me to, while developing a passion and love affair with a certain team, and more specifically, a certain player for the bleu, blanc et rouge. I was falling in love with Patrick Roy and his Montreal Canadiens. And that's when my hobby became an obsession.

Until I left for university in 2003, I was a pretty vigorous enthusiast, chasing deals, building sets, and adding to my personal collection of Patrick Roy cards. For whatever reason, financially being a big one, collecting took a back seat for me for almost a decade. I didn't give much thought of cards for awhile, and honestly didn't know if I ever would. My dad would ask me every now and then what I wanted to do with them, and I always told him I wanted to keep them, store them at the house. I never wanted to let go of them.

And I haven't. I entered teacher's college in 2011 not knowing what to expect. I was a newly turned 26 year old who had spent the previous year teaching English in Korea. But as the year went on, I found myself teaching grade 8 math to a predominantly male classroom. I  started to utilize my old baseball and hockey card collection to teach statistics, averages, fractions, and decimals.

The kids took to it and I found myself entranced by the feel of cards in my hands again, it was heaven. Since then I've been focusing on my Roy collection and found myself back in the game buying packs and boxes.

I'm glad I've gotten back into the mix, and with this blog I hope to not only show off a bit of my collection, but to also connect and meet other collectors, new and old, and share in the hobby.

Hope you enjoy.
